I cannot go without mentioning Balenciaga’s gladiator style patent shoes (from S/S ‘08) that turned heads with their glossy details and black and white knee-high intricacies. These shoes/boots added a contrast to the hyper-colour florals and abbreviated bubbles in the show and gave us bold, must-have footwear from the season’s collections.

Balenciaga has often used the gladiator sandal as a part of their signature style, and it has managed to be innovated once again. It is what designers of Nicolas Ghesquiere’s caliber are supposed to do — push our imaginations with the techniques and materials available to them.
